At just 13 years old Harriet’s life changed forever. Her dad was taken from her in a car accident, and she was forced to flee her big city home in Uganda, in search of safety at the Palabek refugee camp. But what she found there was anything but safety. While there, Harriet was the victim of sexual assault. An atrocious act that robbed her of her hope for the future, and shook her faith in Jesus. But when ministry partners came to her camp to share the gospel the words they shared touched her heart. “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3). Harriet was moved to tears by the words, and asked if she could have the Hope Scripture magazine they were reading from.
The experience transformed Harriet. Now, not only has she regained her faith, she is using her pain to help others. She serves as a counselor to other young women who have suffered similar experiences and shares her story of hope with them!
