From Deep in the Mountains
The mountains of Matagalpa rise like giants from the green Nicaraguan earth. Their peaks are often wrapped in mist and crowned with clouds that seem to take silent watch over the people who live below. To reach the villages tucked deep inside these slopes, you must travel for hours along winding dirt roads—roads that disappear into jungle and mud when the rains come. Out here, far from the city, hope can feel distant.
But even in villages that feel forgotten by the world—Jesus is there.
He uses His people—the Church—and the believers of local churches to answer His call.
It was with this mission in their hearts that a team from one of ShareWord's partner churches finally reached their destination: a remote community within the Matagalpa region.
It was here they met Ana*—a 40-year-old woman with a gentle smile and kind eyes. But behind those eyes you could see the shadows of hardship that is all too common among the people who live here. Life in these mountains is marked by failed crops, storms, and other natural disasters that can destroy and disconnect villages in the blink of an eye.
As the team began to speak with Ana, they soon learned she was removed from the world around her in a different way: she couldn’t read or write—a detail that might seem like a challenge for this encounter. Yet before anyone could worry, God had already made the way.
Through heartfelt conversation and vivid images from Esperanza (Hope) magazine—featuring pages filled with Scripture and breathtaking images of Nicaragua’s rugged beauty—Ana began to see the truth of God’s love. She leaned in. Listening to every word spoken, she began piecing together the hope they spoke of, like a puzzle in her mind.
The team introduced her to Jesus. They shared the depths of God’s love for her—how He sent His son to earth so she could be saved. And then, in that quiet mountain village, far from the noise of the city, Ana prayed a powerful prayer. She chose to follow Jesus.
Her story is just a glimpse of what happens when the gospel message reaches the most remote places in our world.
It is living proof that no one is too far.
No one is unreachable.
Because no one is forgotten by our Saviour.
