The Moment Before “Yes”

There’s a moment—right before saying “yes” to marriage—when many couple’s hearts are filled with questions. Can we do this? Are we ready? Will our love last? It’s an exciting time—but also a little scary. And sometimes, right there, God shows up in a way no one expects.

That same kind of uncertainty was felt at the start of the North America GO Trip. A team of Brazilians had been preparing for months to serve in St. John’s, Newfoundland during the Canada Summer Games, followed by a second week of outreach in New Jersey, New York. But just days before departure, worsening wildfires in Newfoundland forced a sudden change to the plans.

But God was in this moment. Within an hour, ShareWord Global’s GO Team leaders had pulled together, met online, prayed, and came up with a new plan. The team would still come to Canada—but now they would serve in Ontario instead.

What began as a disruption became an invitation. An invitation to trust, to adapt, and to believe that God’s purposes were still unfolding.

The team kept moving, believing that God was still leading them. As one GO Team leader put it, “Our plans may have been frustrated, but God’s plans were not.”

That couldn’t be more true.

From Toronto to Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, and Stratford—and then across the border into New Jersey and New York—the GO team shared the message of hope through parks, churches, markets, and city streets. Each place had its own rhythm, but the heartbeat and team goal remained the same: to glorify God and obey His call to share the gospel.

One special stop was Stratford, standing out—not for its fame—but for its quiet readiness. Known for its gardens and the world-renowned Stratford Festival, the city is full of art and beauty. But on that warm afternoon, it became the stage for something even more beautiful, something eternal.

After helping with an Ignite Event at LIFE Church, the GO team went out to share the gospel in the city. And it was there, on a simple sidewalk, that Cidinha, a GO Trip member, saw a young couple walking hand in hand. She politely approached them, offering a short greeting and asked, “Is there anything I can pray for?”

They didn’t hesitate. “Our marriage,” they said. Nothing else came to mind. Not work, not health—just that. Ana, the bride-to-be, began to cry. It felt as though the prayer had arrived at just the right time—as if it had been quietly waiting for this exact moment to meet the couple’s need. Whether they were believers or not, their hearts knew they needed something deeper.

Cidinha gently shared the gospel and right then and there, the couple prayed to ask Jesus to write their names in the Book of Life and to bless their future together. They asked God to remove obstacles and guide their marriage. Before leaving, they received a Hope magazine and learned that the GO team had actually come all the way from Brazil. “Not by chance,” they were told, “but by what we call a ‘Jesus-cidence.’”

This moment wasn’t on any GO Trip schedule. It wasn’t planned by a human hand. But for Ana and her fiancé, it was exactly what they needed. And for Cidinha, it was another reminder that God doesn’t need perfect words—just willing hearts.

Many people are waiting for someone to ask a simple question: “How can I pray for you?” Sometimes, that’s all it takes for heaven to draw near. And sometimes, the unexpected moment for the one who faithfully goes, is the long-awaited moment for the one who receives God’s message of love.

Because even when our plans change, God’s don’t. He prepares each encounter with care. What looks like a coincidence is really a meeting God prepared long before you and I arrive. There are people everywhere who don’t know how to ask for help—but they’re waiting to be found. And sometimes, it all begins with someone who’s willing to go—someone like you, who says “yes.”

Will you GO again?
