From day one, it’s always been about growing the Church through personal evangelism and sharing God’s Word with people. Our roots stretch back to 1911 when we were founded in Canada as an evangelism and Scripture distribution ministry. A national membership of dedicated volunteers committed themselves to using God’s Word as their primary vehicle of sharing the gospel and introducing people to Jesus Christ.
Over the following decades, our ministry steadily broadened its evangelism outreach from simply placing Bibles in hotel rooms to also sharing God’s Word with prisoners, hospital patients, public servants, students—and anyone else they happened to meet along the way. Like Philip in Acts 8, our members have always been eager to engage with people wrestling with the deepest questions in life by pointing them to the answers found in the Bible.
After becoming an autonomous organization in 2011, we began to reshape our ministry by inviting women and men of all vocations to share the gospel with innovative new Scripture resources alongside local church partners. This led to the development of Scripture magazines (Hope, Redemption, Light, Spark) and a digital app called NewLife to introduce people to the gospel of Christ in a new way. These innovations not only energized the domestic ministry, but also helped propel new international work, starting in Peru and spreading to many other parts of the world. Through strategic partnerships, we began connecting with pastors on every continent and serving them through a ministry model that they could embrace as their own.
In 2015, ShareWord Global was launched to help expand the work in more regions. Our ministry model was gradually taking shape and churches around the world were experiencing new energy and growth as a result. The combination of contextualized Scripture resources and personal encouragement to do community evangelism was mobilizing congregations to actively share the gospel in a new way. Pastors and churches were working together and the gospel was changing lives.
In 2020, our ministry was joined by Reach Beyond Canada for multiplied impact. Together we’re able to reach new audiences around the world through a recording studio, Deaf Bible translations, and gospel broadcasts to the Middle East in multiple languages.
Our focus on equipping everyday men and women of all ages for effective evangelism led us to develop training tools so believers everywhere would feel more confident in sharing the gospel in an increasingly secularized world. We knew that by igniting and fuelling a passion for evangelism in the hearts of believers, more churches would see their congregations excited and ready to finally go and fulfill Christ’s great commission.
Today, we’re active in dozens of countries around the world—equipping, training, and mobilizing believers through local church partnerships and strategic partnerships, all for the glory of God. We’re excited about the opportunities before us to continue sharing our passion and developing new ways to introduce people to the message of hope found in God’s Word.
