Turn It Over
Flip over almost any piece of embroidery, like a cushion your grandmother stitched or the crest on an old team jacket, and you'll find a mess. Knots, loose ends, and colours crossing in every direction. From the back, it's hard to believe anything beautiful is there at all.
Corrie ten Boom, author of The Hiding Place, used that picture when she spoke. She would hold up the tangled back of her own embroidery, then turn it over to reveal a beautiful crown. In her words, "Today we see a tangle of threads, but one day we will see God's masterpiece!"*
On a GO Trip, you mostly see the back of the cloth. A conversation on a street corner. A quick goodbye. A name you may never hear again. But every once in a while, God turns the cloth over early.
That's what happened to Dayana.
The first stitch started eight years earlier, when Dayana became a Christian in Brazil. From that day on, she longed to share the gospel beyond her own community. Recently, ShareWord Global held an Ignite Event at her church, and she heard about a GO Trip to Mozambique.
Right away, there was a knot. The cost of the trip seemed impossible for her to afford, but ShareWord Global staff encouraged her to apply anyway and trust God to provide.
So, she took a step of faith, sent in her application, and prayed.
And God provided everything she needed.
Dayana landed in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique. This busy port city sits on the Indian Ocean, with wide tree-lined avenues, bustling markets, and a historic domed train station at its heart. People there speak Portuguese, just like they do at home in Brazil.
She arrived full of gratitude and excitement. This trip was more than travel. It was proof of God's provision and the answer to a calling He had placed on her heart years before.
On Friday, the first day of outreach, Dayana couldn't wait to start. Near the train station, her team met two young women recording a video outside.
The team started a conversation and shared the Good News of Jesus with them. The women listened closely and seemed genuinely interested.
But before saying goodbye, the team invited them to church on Sunday. They swapped contact information and sent them the church's location.
Then came the hardest part of any outreach: walking away without knowing what would happen next. Dayana hoped they would come, but she wasn't sure she would ever see them again.
Another loose thread.
Then Sunday came, and the two young women walked into the church.
"Only God!" was Dayana's first thought.
Both women stayed for the service and the fellowship lunch afterward, meeting people and getting to know the church family. Then one of them said something that lifted Dayana's heart: this was the church she wanted to attend from now on.
In just two days, God had opened a door for a young woman to connect with a local church family where she could keep growing in her faith. The knot of an impossible cost and the loose thread of an unanswered invitation turned out to be part of the same beautiful design.
"In one weekend, I saw God work in someone else's life and strengthen my own faith at the same time," Dayana says.
Most of your stitches won't flip over this fast. Some of them you won't see from the front until heaven. But every conversation on a GO Trip is a thread in His hands.
Whether it's your first trip or your fifth, pick up the needle. He's already holding the other side.
"For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10
