En A Traveler Without a Compass
Have you ever felt lost—walking through life without a clear idea of what to do next? No map. Nothing to point you in the right direction. Every path feels like it will lead you somewhere unknown, where you can't escape?
Julia can relate.
Julia wandered through different teachings and religions, like someone searching for signs that were never appearing. Each step seemed to promise direction, but the horizon remained empty. Growing up in a Catholic family, she was baptized as a child. Later she joined the Jehovah's Witnesses but eventually drifted away.
For years she searched and searched, never finding the peace or identity she longed for deep inside. Her heart was restless, like a traveler moving forward without a compass. She longed to discover the true answer to her deep questions.
Little did she know it wouldn't stay that way.
In September, while a team from the Iglesia Poder de Dios (God's Power Church) was sharing the gospel at Príncipe de Asturias School in the Villa El Salvador district—where Julia works as a gatekeeper—she approached them as someone crying out for help. Without hesitation, she shared her confusion about the many religions she had encountered.
What Julia didn't know was that this team wasn't there by chance. They were part of a growing movement of trained and equipped churches through ShareWord Global—churches now prepared with practical tools, Scriptures, and a renewed passion to share the Good News.
The team listened with compassion, showing her the Esperanza (Hope) magazine. Julia's situation was not unfamiliar to them; they had been equipped for meaningful conversations like this, and they knew exactly how to respond, explaining that Jesus does not offer religion but rather a personal relationship with God through grace, as they continued to guide her through the content of the magazine.
Then Julia read one of the verses in the magazine: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed." (Psalm 34:18). Those words touched her deeply, and she couldn't hold back her tears—like a small dam finally giving way, letting the waters of relief trickle through.
Now she knew the truth—that God had never abandoned her. The team continued to share that Jesus is "...the way, the truth, and the life..." (John 14:6). That was it. That was the truth she had been waiting for—the truth that brought the peace she had long desired. This was her compass, her open door to a new beginning.
That same day, Julia decided to give her life to Christ. She gratefully received a Bible and the Esperanza magazine.
Though she was soon traveling to another province, the distance would not discourage her new-found brothers and sisters in Christ from staying connected with her. To this day, the church team continues to maintain their friendship with Julia by phone. They press on. The calls and texts do not stop. And in one conversation, Julia shared that reading the Psalms has become a source of refuge and strength for her in her personal struggles.
Today, the church continues to pray faithfully for Julia, trusting that the day will come when she joins them in person to worship together. Although distance has kept her physically away for now, they know she is already equipped with the map that guides her safely in her walk with Christ.
