My name is Abigail Vanderlaan, and I am thrilled to be participating in a Gospel Outreach (“GO”) Trip to Brazil with ShareWord Global.

Our goal is simple yet profound: to share the hope of the gospel to every corner of the world. We do that by mobilizing local churches—our brothers and sisters in the faith—to join us in sharing the life-giving gospel of Jesus Christ with Scripture, to the people around them. We empower local churches through training, resources, outreach opportunities and a community of like-minded evangelists to support and encourage them.

As I prepare for this incredible journey, I am humbled by the opportunity to be an instrument of change and a vessel of God's love. Together, we can make an eternal impact, touching hearts and transforming lives through the love of God.

My Story: I grew up in a Christian family, attending church every Sunday, but I never understood what it truly means to have God as the center of my life. Through attending church and a Christian school, I learned about the gospel and God's Word, but for a long time my faith was more about knowledge than personal trust. As I grew older, God began to reveal Himself to me and work within my heart in a deeper and more personal way. At the beginning of this year, my family went through a very difficult season that brought a lot of uncertainty in my life. At the same time, I was experiencing broken friendships, broken trust, and personal struggles that left me feeling defeated and lost. Not long after, my family and I left the church I grew up in, which was especially difficult since it was also the church my dad pastored at. I felt hurt, confused, angry, and fear about not knowing what the next steps were in my life. In the middle of these struggles, I learned that I had a choice: I could try to figure out everything on my own, or I could rely on God's strength. Hope became a big part of my life. Even when I didn't know what the outcome would be, God reminded me that He was in control and working for our good. I saw how God can use difficult situations to strengthen our faith and to teach us to depend on Him. I truly learned what it means to trust in the Lord and His plan for my life. Through learning to trust in God, relying on His strength when I had none of my own, and casting my worries onto Him, I came to truly know Him. Since then, I have felt His presence in my life daily and I have learned that He is faithful and always near. My faith means so much to me today, and this is why I feel called to go on this mission trip to Brazil, to share the hope I have found in Christ and to allow God to continue to work through me while serving others. I am so excited to share my faith and the gospel with others! My hope is that others will come to know God and the peace, hope, and reassurance that He has shown me!
