Yes, Even Here
You might not expect a gospel conversation to happen in the middle of a busy Canadian city.
You’ll often hear stories of the gospel being shared around the world—but here in Canada? Where people tend to keep to themselves as they speed through their day? It just doesn’t seem likely.
But God is moving. Yes, even here.
During the outreach portion of a recent ShareWord Global Ignite Event at Ramp Church, Alicia walked through Celebration Square in Mississauga, Ontario, praying for someone to talk to. As she passed the library, she noticed a woman sitting alone—and felt a nudge to approach her.
Drawing on the evangelism training she had just received that morning, Alicia started with small talk, complimenting the woman’s hat and asking how her day was going.
The woman, Patty, responded, but with something that stopped Alicia in her tracks:
“Oh, I was just thinking about the purpose of life.”
Alicia immediately felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in that moment, showing her an opening to introduce Jesus to this woman God had placed in her path. She gently asked, “What do you think the purpose of life is?”
Patty admitted she didn’t know. She had recently gone through a divorce and was in the middle of a deep emotional struggle—questioning everything.
This story was very familiar to Alicia. She shared her own history with Patty—how her parents’ divorce had left a mark on her too, leading her into a season of rebellion. But that pain, she explained, eventually led her to Jesus.
That vulnerability created an opportunity. Right there, in the middle of the square, two strangers became something more—two souls connecting over a shared pain—now united by the message of the One who is bigger than past hurts.
They sat and talked for over an hour. Patty continued to share that she had grown up Roman Catholic but was now searching for something deeper—a personal relationship with Jesus, not just religion. Alicia listened, encouraged, and offered to pray with her.
The prayer was simple, but powerful. Before they parted, Alicia gave her contact information.
A short few hours later, a message came through from Patty:
“Thank you so much for that conversation. God bless.”
The gospel isn’t limited by geography or culture. It’s alive—even here, in the unexpected places.
Don’t let Alicia’s story be just another feel-good moment. Look around—even here in Canada, where everyone seems too busy, too distant, too distracted.
Opportunities are all around us. Ask God to open your eyes in a new way to someone passing by who needs His love.
He’s already moving. Will you follow His lead?
