It Follows You Home

You go on the trip. You share the gospel. You fly home thinking the mission is over... but is it?

Brian had travelled to Chile in May to share the gospel alongside his GO team. When he came home to Canada, life picked up its normal rhythm again.

One of those ordinary tasks was logging his volunteer hours on his company's internal HR platform, the kind of thing you click through without a second thought.

He didn't know it yet, but his most surprising ministry opportunity wasn't behind him in Chile. It was waiting for him at his own desk.

Courtney, who manages that HR platform from the company's head office in Ohio, noticed where Brian had been. They had never met. Their only contact had been a few short work emails about logging hours. He had no idea what kind of person she was, or what she believed.

But when she saw he had gone on a GO Trip, she reached out, curious. So, Brian sent her some photos from his time in Chile, with captions explaining what the team had done.

Her reply stopped him in his tracks.

"This truly warms my heart to see," she wrote. "Thank you even more for the incredible work you're doing. Not just for our communities, but on an even deeper level... touching and transforming lives."

Then she shared something more personal that Brian never expected.

Two years ago, she had decided to read the whole Bible on her own. In a personal way, she worked to understand it for herself.

"When I say it has changed my life," she wrote, "I truly can't describe it any other way. Now I stay in it daily. It really is my daily bread."

Knowing Brian was helping equip everyday believers to share their faith through his ShareWord connection moved her deeply. She closed her email with Scripture:

"For we are both God's workers. And you are God's field. You are God's building." (1 Corinthians 3:9)

Brian was moved. He didn't expect to find such common ground in a work email. He sent her one more thing: a snapshot of a NewLife app card, explaining how the QR code lets anyone download God's Word and read it in hundreds of languages.

Her answer? "Oh, this is sweet! Thank you for sharing. Definitely making printouts."

Sit with that for a moment. A woman he had never met, in another country, was now going to print those cards and pass on the Good News in Cleveland, Ohio, and beyond.

None of it happened in Chile. All of it happened after he got home.

And the ripple reached Brian himself.

He used to trade nothing but task emails with people like Courtney. But this quiet exchange changed something in him. That one conversation gave him a new boldness. He now feels stirred to share his faith more freely with the people he works with every day, to be bolder for Christ right where he sits, day in and day out.

That's the quiet wonder of a GO Trip. You cross a border believing you're the one carrying the gospel out. Then you come home and discover the mission travelled back with you; into the ordinary places you'd never thought to look.

The seed Brian planted in Chile took root somewhere he never watered: a desk in Ohio, in the heart of a woman he'd never spoken to face to face. And that same seed grew in him, too.

Because the mission was never only "over there."

The trip didn't end when the plane landed.

It was only the beginning.
