In a region where sharing the gospel can be life-threatening, Pastor Simon* gathered a group of bold believers for a special meeting at his church in South Asia. Nursing staff from a Christian hospital, Christian military personnel, and local believers came together to be equipped and encouraged to share the Good News with those around them.
The meeting’s purpose was to inspire these men and women to recognize the opportunities they have to share Christ with their friends, family, coworkers, and neighbours—their grid.
During the meeting, Pastor Simon shared a powerful message from 2 Timothy 2:2, reminding the group of their responsibility as faithful people to pass on the message of Christ. “There are people in your life who need to hear about Jesus,” he said. “We are providing you with tools—New Testaments, Spark, and Hope magazine—that can help you start conversations with those around you.”
He used the story of the Samaritan woman at the well as an example of how God can use even the simplest moments for His purpose. Jesus didn’t begin by speaking directly about salvation. Instead, He asked for a drink of water, and from that small request, an entire village came to know Him. Pastor Simon encouraged the group to look for similar everyday moments where they could share their faith with those around them.
Despite the risks involved in speaking openly about Jesus in South Asia, the believers left the meeting with renewed energy and excitement. They were eager to learn how to use the resources provided and felt a strong sense of responsibility to share Christ’s message with their communities. The meeting was more than just an event—it was a step toward filling the gap in places where the gospel is rarely heard.
As followers of Christ, we all have a role to play. Who is in your grid? Who do you encounter daily that might never hear about Jesus unless you take the time to share with them? Whether it’s a small conversation or offering a resource like a Bible or Scripture magazine, we can all take steps to ensure the message of hope reaches those around us.
If believers in persecuted countries can find the courage to share the gospel, even at the risk of their own lives, how much more can we in places where the cost is far lower? The need is urgent, and we are called to step into the gap. Let’s push through our own hesitations, our own doubts, trusting that God can use even our small efforts to bring life-changing hope to a world that desperately needs it.
