Mozambique has a variety of Christian groups involved in the nation, but traditionally the Catholic Church has been the most influential and continues to have a long-standing presence and significant following. In the midst of this, there are also various Protestant denominations including Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal churches, among others. Each of these denominations brings its unique perspective and approach to spreading the Christian faith.
But Mozambique also struggles with physical barriers as well as spiritual. Unreached people groups are often found in remote rural areas and have limited access to Christian resources and Scripture materials. This presents a wonderful opportunity to bring the message of the gospel to those who have not yet heard it.
The need for Scriptures and training resources in Mozambique is significant. Many areas lack access to Bibles, Christian literature, and discipleship materials in their local languages. Providing these resources will empower individuals and communities in their spiritual growth and understanding of the gospel.
But to make real progress in Mozambique, nothing is more important than partnership with local churches. Many churches are actively engaged in missions and outreach efforts, working to bring about positive change in the lives of their neighbours.
Mozambique presents an exciting opportunity. Its religious diversity, presence of unreached people groups, need for Bibles and discipleship resources, and the effectiveness of the church make it a compelling destination for those passionate about sharing the love of Christ.
The work in Mozambique is still in its early stages. A scouting team has already met with churches to find partners and drum up excitement for the ShareWord Global Ministry.
Churches have seen the resources and training available, and their excitement to become partners is growing. And the need is obvious. In talks with pastors, para-church ministries, and local believers, it quickly became obvious just how needed adequate training and resources are in the region.
The next step for this mission field is hosting a GO Trip in June 2024, which will officially launch the ministry in Mozambique!
